JB Pritzker and the Illinois governor market
The state contract is the Illinois governor market, and it settles on a party rather than on a person. Kalshi's contract resolves Yes for the party whose representative is inaugurated as governor of Illinois pursuant to the 2026 election, lists January 14, 2027 as its expected settlement, and allows an early determination once a consensus of media organizations projects the winner. Polymarket resolves on the winner once the Associated Press, Fox News and NBC all call the race for the same candidate, and on the official certification if they do not. Its rules leave an independent outside both party outcomes.
That makes JB Pritzker the Democratic side of the contract without making him its subject. The Democratic outcome stood for whoever carried the party's nomination, and in 2026 that was Pritzker, running with Christian Mitchell for lieutenant governor. No contract listed on this site resolves on him by name. The market was listed as resolved on November 5, 2026, after the race call, and the market rows on this page show how each venue's contract finished.
Current office and record
JB Pritzker is the Governor of Illinois, in office since January 14, 2019, when he succeeded Bruce Rauner, a Republican. Wikidata carries that term with no end date, and the governor's office site, read on November 5, 2026, publishes under the name "JB Pritzker, Governor". His party is the Democratic Party.
He reached the office by election and has kept it the same way. The State Board of Elections' official totals for 2018 put him at 2,479,746 votes to Rauner's 1,765,751. For 2022 they put him at 2,253,748 votes to 1,739,095 for Darren Bailey, the Republican he faced again in 2026. In the March 17, 2026 primary he ran unopposed and took 1,197,587 votes.
What has moved the market
The March 17, 2026 primary set up the rematch. Bailey won a four-way Republican contest with 304,162 votes, and the State Board of Elections' candidate list for the general election, as of November 2, 2026, shows three tickets: Pritzker and Mitchell for the Democrats, Bailey and Aaron B. Del Mar for the Republicans, and Collin Corbett and Carolyn Schofield as independents.
On October 13, 2026, Pritzker and Bailey met for an hour on WTTW in Chicago, which Capitol News Illinois described as their only planned meeting of the campaign; the story on that debate covers what it changed and what it did not. Three days later, the Chicago Sun-Times reported third-quarter filings showing Pritzker entering October with $44.4M on hand, against about $482K for Bailey's campaign.
Election night settled the question. CBS News projected Pritzker the winner at 7:03 p.m. Central on November 3, 2026, minutes after the polls closed. Its unofficial count as of 8:55 a.m. Central on November 5, with about nine in ten of the expected votes counted, had Pritzker at 2,347,428 votes, Bailey at 1,453,571 and Corbett at 131,403, a lead of 893,857 votes. The story on the call follows the night itself.
What happens next
The results are unofficial, and the State Board of Elections does not post unofficial returns itself; local election authorities do. Ballots postmarked by Election Day are counted if they arrive by November 17, 2026. Election authorities canvass their returns by November 24, and the Board canvasses and proclaims the statewide results by December 4, 2026, according to its 2026 calendar.
The same calendar has the statewide executive terms that follow this election beginning on January 11, 2027, which is when Pritzker's third term is scheduled to start, with Mitchell as lieutenant governor. Kalshi did not wait for it: its pair settled at 8:08 p.m. Eastern (7:08 p.m. Central) on November 3, 2026, Democratic contract Yes, and Polymarket's market had resolved for Pritzker by 11:10 p.m. Eastern. Next review: November 19, 2026. Every race on the November 3 ballot is on the Illinois elections page, the state's other political markets are under Illinois politics, and the Illinoisans named by a contract are listed on the people pages.
Common questions
Did JB Pritzker win the 2026 Illinois governor race?
Yes, in unofficial results. CBS News projected Pritzker the winner over Republican Darren Bailey at 7:03 p.m. Central on November 3, 2026, and its count as of 8:55 a.m. Central on November 5 had him 893,857 votes ahead. The result stays unofficial until the State Board of Elections proclaims it by December 4, 2026.
Do the Illinois governor odds price JB Pritzker by name?
No. Kalshi's contract settles on the party whose representative is inaugurated as governor pursuant to the 2026 election, or earlier on a consensus media projection, and Polymarket's on the party of the winner the Associated Press, Fox News and NBC all call, so the market turns on the Democratic Party rather than on Pritzker himself.
What office does JB Pritzker hold?
Governor of Illinois, since January 14, 2019, when he succeeded Bruce Rauner. Wikidata and the governor's office site both named him governor on November 5, 2026.
When does JB Pritzker's third term begin?
On January 11, 2027, when the statewide executive terms that follow the November 3, 2026 election begin, according to the State Board of Elections' 2026 calendar. The Board proclaims the statewide results by December 4, 2026, and Christian Mitchell would take office as lieutenant governor on the same day.
