How it settlesSettled by Polymarket, Kalshi

The market asks which party wins the Illinois governor's race in the November 3, 2026 general election. Kalshi resolves its GOVPARTYIL-26 Democratic contract Yes if a representative of the Democratic Party is inaugurated as governor of Illinois pursuant to the 2026 election, and its Republican contract on the same test for the Republican Party; it lists an expected settlement of January 14, 2027 and is eligible for accelerated determination after a consensus of media organizations projects the winner. Polymarket resolves its Illinois Governor Election Winner market on the winner once the Associated Press, Fox News and NBC all call the race for the same candidate, and on the official certification if they do not; a candidate represents a party when he or she is that party's nominee, and an independent is not covered by the Democratic or Republican outcome. Each venue's own rules govern its contracts.

Illinois Governor 2026: The Market Prices the Pritzker and Bailey Rematch as a Rerun

The Illinois governor odds 2026 board rests on one comparison: Darren Bailey has already run against JB Pritzker, in 2022, and lost by 514,653 votes, so the market treats their rematch on November 3, 2026 as the same race heading for the same answer. A Democrat has held the office since Pritzker succeeded Bruce Rauner, a Republican, on January 14, 2019. The live board above carries Kalshi's and Polymarket's current prices for each party.

Who Is on the Illinois Governor Ballot

The State Board of Elections' candidate list for the general election, as of October 16, 2026, shows three tickets still standing for Governor and Lieutenant Governor. JB Pritzker runs with Christian Mitchell as the Democratic ticket. Darren Bailey runs with Aaron B. Del Mar as the Republican ticket. Collin Corbett and Carolyn Schofield run as independents. A Green Party ticket was removed from the list on July 14, 2026, and the Independence Party and New Party filings were removed on June 9, 2026, so the ballot carries one independent pairing beside the two major parties.

The running mates are a change from four years ago. Juliana Stratton, Lieutenant Governor since January 14, 2019, is the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate this year, which is why Mitchell, not Stratton, is on Pritzker's ticket. Capitol News Illinois reported on October 7, 2026 that Bailey chose Del Mar, the Cook County Republican Party chair, as part of a campaign aimed more at the Chicago area than his 2022 run.

The March 17, 2026 primary decided both nominations without drama at the top. Pritzker was unopposed and took 1,197,587 votes. Bailey won a four-way Republican contest with 304,162 votes, 53.28% of the party's total, ahead of Ted Dabrowski with 165,229, James Mendrick with 54,599 and Rick Heidner with 46,374. Pritzker's unopposed primary total alone was more than every Republican candidate's votes combined, a sign of how the two parties' primary electorates compare in Illinois rather than a forecast of November.

Why the Illinois Governor Price Sits Near Certainty

What the price is saying is that the 2022 result is the best guide to 2026, and that nothing since has narrowed it. The State Board of Elections' official totals put that race at 2,253,748 votes for Pritzker to 1,739,095 for Bailey, with the Libertarian Scott Schluter at 111,712. In 2018 Pritzker beat Rauner by 2,479,746 votes to 1,765,751. Two elections in a row the Democrat won statewide by more than twelve points, and the second time it was against the same opponent he faces now.

The federal results point the same way. The Clerk of the House's statistics for November 5, 2024 show the Democratic presidential electors with 3,062,863 votes in Illinois against 2,449,079 for the Republican slate, a gap of more than 600,000 votes. A Republican needs to win over a large share of voters who backed Democrats at the top of the ticket in both 2022 and 2024, and the price assumes that does not happen in a single cycle.

Money is the third leg. Capitol News Illinois reported on October 7, 2026 that Pritzker has put more than $90M of his own money into his campaign, while Bailey reported $405K in donations of $1K or more between July 1 and September 30 after starting July with about $128K on hand. The same report says Richard Uihlein, who helped fund Bailey with $12M in 2022, had given $6.9K so far this cycle. A challenger who lost by twelve points with heavy outside backing is running the rematch with much less of it.

On October 16, 2026, Kalshi and Polymarket both had the Democratic contract at 98%, and Polymarket's 2% was the cheapest Yes on the Republican side, against Kalshi's 3%. That means the venues treat a Bailey win as a remote outcome rather than a live one, and it is a firmer call than the one public poll, by itself, would carry. Kalshi had matched about 176,000 contracts on the board as of October 16, 2026, roughly 120,000 of them on the Democratic contract, and Polymarket had traded about $15.6K.

The polling that exists agrees with the direction, not the certainty. Capitol News Illinois described a Public Policy Polling survey for Chicago News Weekly of 569 Illinois voters, taken September 30 to October 1, 2026, that had Pritzker at 54, Bailey at 34 and Corbett at 6, with 6 undecided. A twenty-point lead in one poll is consistent with a heavy favorite; it is also one poll.

The Case Against the Illinois Governor Read

The strongest case against the read is that the price leans on one survey and two old results. Capitol News Illinois called public polling in the race scarce as of October 7, 2026, and the one survey it cited sampled 569 voters by phone and text over two days. A reader who doubts the price would say that a near-certain number should rest on more than that.

Bailey's own argument is about the incumbent rather than the challenger. He told Capitol News Illinois he wants the race to be about high property taxes and utility costs, and his case is that voters are unsatisfied after eight years of Pritzker in office. Corbett's six points in that one poll are another unknown: an independent ticket that draws more from one side than the other would change the margin, even if it is far from changing the winner.

The price has an answer to all of this. Bailey has already made his case once, to largely the same electorate, and lost by twelve points; he now has less outside money and faces a governor spending his own fortune. The counterread asks the market to expect a swing of more than half a million votes in four years, and the one public poll Capitol News Illinois cited points the other way.

What Changes the Illinois Governor Read

The read would be wrong if evidence appears that the 2022 margin has closed. The dated tests:

• New polling: An independent survey after the September 30 to October 1 poll that shows Bailey within single digits would be the first sign the rematch is not a rerun.

• Early voting: Early voting at permanent polling places opens on October 19, 2026, and online registration closes on October 18.

• Ballot changes: October 19, 2026 is also the last day a vacancy in nomination can occur and be filled for this election, so the three tickets on the list are close to fixed.

• Mail ballots: Applications by mail must reach election authorities by October 29, 2026. Ballots postmarked by November 3 count if they arrive within 14 days, and counting of those ballots ends November 17.

• The canvass: Election authorities canvass by November 24, 2026, and the State Board of Elections proclaims the results by December 4.

When the Illinois Governor Market Resolves

Kalshi resolves its Democratic contract Yes if a representative of the Democratic Party is inaugurated as governor of Illinois pursuant to the 2026 election, and its Republican contract on the same test; it lists an expected settlement of January 14, 2027 and allows accelerated determination once a consensus of media organizations projects the winner. Polymarket resolves on the winner once the Associated Press, Fox News and NBC all call the race for the same candidate, and on the official certification if they do not. Polymarket's rules say an independent is not covered by the Democratic or Republican outcome, so a Corbett win would pay neither party's contract there.

The governor's race shares the ballot with an open U.S. Senate seat, covered on the Illinois Senate odds page, and with seventeen House races. The closest-priced districts have pages of their own: the Illinois 8th District odds, the Illinois 17th District odds, the Illinois 11th District odds, the Illinois 4th District odds and the Illinois 2nd District odds. The Illinois elections page collects every race on the November 3, 2026 ballot, and Illinois politics covers the rest of the state's political markets.
