Bears Playoff Odds Ask One Question: Is Chicago Among the NFC's Seven?

Short answer. Bears playoff odds price one yes-or-no question: whether Chicago finishes among the NFC's playoff qualifiers. This guide shows how that contract reads, when it can settle early and what decides it.

The Bears playoff contract in one paragraph

Bears playoff odds are the price of one yes-or-no contract: will the Chicago Bears be among the clubs that qualify for the NFL postseason? Kalshi writes it as KXNFLPLAYOFF-27-CHI, one of 32 team contracts in its Pro Football Playoff Qualifiers event for the 2026-27 season, and the rule is a single line: if Chicago is one of the playoff qualifiers, the market resolves Yes. A Yes contract pays $1 if that happens and nothing if it does not, so the price reads as the market's chance of a postseason place.

As an invented example, a price of 60% says the market sees Chicago making the field a little more often than three times in five, with nothing in that number about how far the Bears would go once there.

How the Bears playoff contract works step by step

1. Count the places. The NFL sends seven clubs from each conference, 14 in all: the four division winners and three wild cards, under the league's tie-breaking procedures. The NFC's divisions are the East, North, South and West, and the Bears play in the North with Detroit, Green Bay and Minnesota. Any of the seven NFC places pays the contract the same dollar; a division title and the last wild card count alike.

2. Watch for a clinch. Kalshi's market "will close and expire early if the event occurs," so the contract can settle Yes the moment Chicago's place is secure, before the regular season has run out. Polymarket's own Bears contract, part of its Team to Make Postseason event, also resolves Yes once the team clinches a spot under the NFL's rules.

3. Watch for an elimination. The No side has a trigger too. Under Kalshi's NFLMILESTONES terms a club "is eliminated from contention when it is reported so by the Source Agency," which the terms list as the league, the Associated Press, ESPN, The Wall Street Journal and Fox Sports, and that report resolves the market No. Polymarket resolves No as soon as a playoff place becomes impossible, its example being mathematical elimination.

4. If neither happens early, the season decides. A Bears schedule that ends with a game at Minnesota in January 2027 leaves room for the question to go the distance. Kalshi lists an expected expiration of January 11, 2027 and a latest of January 25, and its terms pay on the first official final result, with any later revision ignored.

5. Follow the price, not the standings alone. Carry the invented example on: a contract at 60% after a win, then 75% after a second, is the market adding up how many of the seven places look reachable. A loss to a club that is also chasing a wild card can cost more than a loss to a division leader, because of the tiebreakers below.

Where Illinois readers stand

How the contract settles is one question; whether an exchange may offer it to someone in Illinois is another, and it depends on the state's record rather than on the NFL. The Illinois Gaming Board's letters to prediction-market exchanges and the court record that followed are set out with their dates on the legal status page. This guide draws no conclusion about any venue. It is not legal advice and not financial advice.

Common misreadings

A division title is required. It is not. The Bears NFC North market pays only on the division, one place, while the playoff contract pays on any of seven, which is why the two prices can sit far apart on the same afternoon and both be consistent.

The record alone settles a tie. When clubs finish level, the NFL's procedures decide who goes. Two tied clubs from the same division use the division tiebreaker, starting with head-to-head; two from different divisions go to head-to-head, then record within the conference, then common games with a minimum of four. When three or more chase wild cards, the league first drops all but the highest-ranked club in each division. A game against Detroit, Green Bay or Minnesota can count twice.

A tie game is a lost cause for the contract. The league counts a tie as half a win and half a loss for both clubs, so it changes the winning percentage the tiebreakers read rather than wiping out a week.

The two exchanges always settle together. Mostly they will, but their rules differ at the edges. Polymarket's contract resolves No if the playoffs are cancelled, start after January 24, 2027, or the full 14-team field is not confirmed by then, and it says a tiebreaker is not part of the playoffs. Kalshi's terms instead split the payout among the clubs still eligible if the field is never decided, paying Yes holders the number of places left divided by the number of clubs left.

A high price is a promise. A contract at 90% still leaves a one-in-ten chance of No, and it says nothing about seeding, a home game or the Super Bowl, which sits on the Bears Super Bowl market.

The live contract and its history are on the Bears playoff market page, and the club's other boards are gathered on the Chicago Bears team page. The companion guides follow two very different Illinois contracts the same way: how the Illinois gas price contract settles and how Chicago temperature contracts settle.

This guide is not legal advice and not financial advice. It explains how the Bears playoff contract reads and settles, and names no side and no exchange to use.

Common questions

How many NFC teams make the NFL playoffs?

Seven: the four division winners, from the NFC East, North, South and West, and three wild cards, under the NFL's tie-breaking procedures. The full field is 14 clubs across both conferences.

Do the Bears have to win the NFC North to make the playoffs?

No. A division title is one of the NFC's seven places, and the playoff contract pays the same on a wild card. Only the separate NFC North contract requires Chicago to win the division.

What happens to the Bears playoff contract if Chicago clinches early?

It settles Yes early. Kalshi's market closes and expires once the event occurs, and Polymarket's Bears contract resolves Yes when the team clinches a spot under the NFL's rules, so neither waits for the last regular-season game.

What breaks a wild-card tie between the Bears and another team?

If the Bears are tied with a club from their own division, the NFL applies the division tiebreaker first, starting with head-to-head. Against a club from another division the steps run head-to-head, then record within the conference, then common games with a minimum of four, then strength of victory.

Are NFL prediction markets legal in Illinois?

Illinois Predictions keeps that question on its legal status page, which sets out the Illinois Gaming Board's letters to prediction-market exchanges and the court record with the date of each. This guide draws no conclusion about any venue.
