Juliana Stratton and the Illinois Senate market
Juliana Stratton appears on the Illinois Senate market as the Democratic nominee, but neither venue's rule turns on her name. Kalshi's pair resolves on the party of the senator sworn in from Illinois for the term beginning in 2027, with an expected settlement of January 4, 2027 and an accelerated determination allowed after a consensus of media projections. Polymarket's market resolves on the winner of the 2026 Illinois U.S. Senate election, run-offs included, once the Associated Press, Fox News and NBC all call it for the same candidate, and on certification otherwise.
A candidate counts for a party on Polymarket by being its nominee, so Whitfield Harrington Jr of the American Center Party sat outside both party outcomes. What the contract asked, then, was whether the seat stayed Democratic with Stratton carrying the party's line, not a question about her alone. No contract listed on this site resolves on her by name. After the race call the market was listed as resolved on November 5, 2026, and the market rows on this page carry how each venue's contract closed.
Current office and record
Stratton is the Lieutenant Governor of Illinois, in office since January 14, 2019, when she succeeded Evelyn Sanguinetti. Wikidata shows the term open, with no end date, and the lieutenant governor's office site, read on November 5, 2026, names her as the state's 48th Lieutenant Governor. She took office the same day as Governor JB Pritzker. Her party is the Democratic Party.
Before that she held a seat in the Illinois House of Representatives for the 5th District, from January 11, 2017 to January 2, 2019. Because she ran for the Senate in 2026, she is not on the governor's ticket this year: the State Board of Elections' candidate list names Christian Mitchell as the Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor beside Pritzker.
What has moved the market
The seat opened when Dick Durbin, who holds it, did not seek re-election, as Fox News reported on March 17, 2026; the U.S. Senate's member list, updated October 8, 2026, still names him as Illinois's Class II senator. In the Democratic primary that same day Stratton took 507,689 votes, ahead of Raja Krishnamoorthi with 411,150 and Robin Kelly with 229,788, according to the State Board of Elections' totals. The Board's general-election list, as of November 2, 2026, has her facing Republican Don Tracy and Harrington.
Two October dates followed. On October 12, Barack Obama endorsed her in a video her campaign released, which the Chicago Sun-Times reported the same day and the story on the endorsement covers. On October 20, she and Tracy met for their only face-to-face forum, an hour on WTTW, as Capitol News Illinois reported.
Then the vote. CBS News projected Stratton the winner at 7:09 p.m. Central on November 3, 2026. Its unofficial count as of 8:55 a.m. Central on November 5, with more than nine in ten of the expected votes counted, had her at 2,431,012 votes, Tracy at 1,501,458 and Harrington at 62,967, a lead of 929,554. The story on her win follows the night.
What happens next
These are unofficial results until the canvass ends. Ballots postmarked by Election Day are tabulated if they arrive by November 17, 2026; local election authorities canvass by November 24, and the State Board of Elections proclaims the result by December 4, 2026, per its 2026 calendar. The Board posts no unofficial returns of its own.
The federal term for the seat begins on January 3, 2027, by the same calendar, and Kalshi's expected settlement comes a day later. The statewide executive terms, including the lieutenant governor's, begin on January 11, 2027. Next review: November 19, 2026. Pritzker's own race is on the Illinois governor market, the whole ballot is on the Illinois elections page, and the other Illinoisans a contract names are listed on the people pages.
Common questions
Did Juliana Stratton win the Illinois Senate race?
Yes, in unofficial results. CBS News projected Stratton the winner over Republican Don Tracy at 7:09 p.m. Central on November 3, 2026, and its count as of 8:55 a.m. Central on November 5 had her 929,554 votes ahead. The result is unofficial until the State Board of Elections proclaims it by December 4, 2026.
Which Senate seat did Juliana Stratton run for?
The Class II seat Dick Durbin holds, which he did not seek again in 2026. The U.S. Senate's member list, updated October 8, 2026, names Durbin in that seat, and the new term begins on January 3, 2027.
What office does Juliana Stratton hold now?
Lieutenant Governor of Illinois, since January 14, 2019, when she succeeded Evelyn Sanguinetti. Wikidata and the lieutenant governor's office site both named her in that office on November 5, 2026.
Does the Illinois Senate market settle on Juliana Stratton?
No. Kalshi settles on the party of the senator sworn in for the term beginning in 2027, with an expected settlement of January 4, 2027, and Polymarket on the party of the nominee the Associated Press, Fox News and NBC all call, so the contract follows the Democratic Party rather than Stratton herself.
